I’m Scott Weathersby, a 24 year survivor of leukemia. The purpose of this website is to help raise awareness of the importance of being a donor and take donations to help victims of leukemia. Match Marrow Foundation, Inc. was started to spread the importance of being a donor and raising monies to help victims with this disease.
When I was out of work, I went to our local YMCA to help get back what I had lost in physical capabilities. In doing so, I was asked to come work for the Y and I became a certified personal trainer specializing in seniors. It greatly changed their quality of life. I trained most of them for free as it was my way of giving back. I find it rewarding to help these people.
The first family to receive money from the foundation was a nine year old girl with leukemia. It was such a blessing to help this family as I didn’t know them until I found out about her. Sometimes a simple compliment or an act of kindness can change an entire day for someone. Like my dad before me, we both are givers and find it so rewarding to be able to make a positive impact on other people’s lives.
When I was diagnosed with leukemia, my siblings were tested to see if they were a match for marrow donation. I was fortunate because my sister was a perfect match and became my donor. There are many people who don’t have that blessing and many of those have family members who won’t even be tested. This is why it is so important to have people who are willing to make a difference in other’s lives and become a donor – whether it is a donation of bone marrow or organs. A person does not have to know someone in need to make a difference.
Through this website, it is my hope that people will read this and realize the importance of being a donor of bone marrow, other organs or a monetary donation. There will be links for both on the website.
To each one of you who looks at the Match Marrow Foundation, Inc website, thank you! You could be helping someone you never know or they could even help you.
